Fragmenti collection by Daniele Papuli
As part of Milan Design Week held earlier this year, Dilmos Gallery Milano presented a new collection by Daniele Papuli called “Fragmenti”.
Each piece in the collection was meticulously crafted by the artist, who describes himself as a “sculptographer” who has spent more than 30 years exploring the use of paper as a sculptural and functional material.

“Paper is also a material for design,” says Daniele Papuli. “Fragmenti are modulated compositions, sensory stations, objects that inhabit our daily life, that tell their stories and invite us to a specific role. The word ‘Fragmenti’, in my opinion, has a great sound rhythm, bringing us immediately back to the ‘fragrance’ of the sheet of paper”.
This collection was the result of a long and multi-staged crafting process which began with the research and selection of papers of various types – recycled or new sheets from paper mills with forestry certifications – chosen for colour and weight. The paper then undergoes a process of deconstruction, being reduced to thin strips only a few centimetres wide. These are then combined with Isocell fibre, reshaped and mixed with natural materials and oxides to create a new material.
Dilmos has had a long partnership with Daniele Papuli which, over the years, has produced a significant number of iconic products.

Fragmento 1.C – wall-mounted console with hidden side shelves made from sand and green papers.
Fragmento 2.T – rectangular table with full side and round sculptural leg. The dense polychrome inlay with dominant black evokes the bark of a tree.
Fragmento 3.S – round mirror in shades of blue which is reminiscent of the natural pools formed in cavities along a coastline.
Fragmento 4.P – a movable corner vanity with rotating surface, antique mirror and pouf with printed cotton fabric.
Fragmento 5-6.L – a double bookshelf with 10 side compartments and shelves painted in black, modulated with a geometric inlay of strips in black, whie and sand.
Fragmento 7.T – a round table with top and base joint, with an arabesque modulation in shades of blue and azure.
Fragmento 8-9-10-11-12-13.M – six shelves with a hand-shaped front, formed by vertical reams and strips of paper in yellow tones.
Fragmento 14-15.D – two hollow semicylindrical bodies with the base modulated from reams of book pages that reveal ink printing marks in the cut.
Fragmento 16.C – a cylindrical cabinet with external inlay in grey tones that enhances the vertical and geometric rigor of the object.
Frag Pouf 01.02.03.04 – removable cover poufs available in two heights.
